YDA is a well that yields a lot of oil

Like every Tuesday, I have the pleasure to  introduce a previous winner. Today, it is European Broadcast Winner, Tomaso Cariboni!

What made you participate in the Young Director Award?
When you shoot and edit a commercial as a director, you have to compromise on a lot of things. You speak to your client and his costumers first. Once you’ve done your job, you end up with a director’s cut which is not meant to be broadcast.

As a director, I think that it is essential to be seen and judged by people who are interested in your work as a director. This is why I think that competitions (whether you win or not… but it’s definitely better for your ego and career to win) are interesting and allow you to test your talent and fine-tune your work.

Participating in competitions means you get to know other people like you (other directors), admire their work and personality and be part of an environment where you actually can learn a lot!

How did you find the whole process?
The thing I like the most is to participate, to be there… and I missed the ceremony.

How did you benefit from the award?
So far, I have been contacted about the Freddy commercial, most of the time for similar projects. This was to be expected. But times are hard and I believe that the real benefits are yet to come. This award is a well that yields a lot of oil, I trust.

What are you doing now?
I’m desperately seeking a film script that will really convince me. In the meantime, I’ve been working a lot with (h) films (Milan, ITALY) the production company that gave me the opportunity to shoot the Freddy commercial. I shall always be grateful for that!

Good luck for the future, Tomaso — with your talent, you’ll definitely succeed!
